Nobody really wanted to believe that this was really happening but it was. The world was falling apart and it was happening quick. They needed a place where everyone could survive together, big enough for everyone to have room but not to big as to be hard to defend. It needed to have infrastructure all ready in place, his crew and friends could build anything given enough time, but time was something in short supply. Some wanted to go to a mall, some wanted to go to a police station, some wanted to build a fort out of telephone poles. “Everyone just shut up and listen to me already, I know where we can all go including our families.” Ray shouted above all the other voices that were giving their two cents on where to go to stay alive. “ It’s got everything we need in one place”. “We need to go to STEEL CITY.”

A couple of the guys thought about it for a few seconds then agreed with him and said it would be a great idea to go there. Some of the others did not know what he was talking about so he told them. “Steel City is the name we use for the old shipping docks.” It was in the bay on a finger of land about 2 miles long and about 1 mile wide, surrounded by water on three sides. There was one way in and only one way out, but he already had a plan for making a wall that would go up quick and keep them all safe. They could stay there for a long time because it had a barracks where the workers that built it used to live, huge underground diesel storage tanks that were used to refuel the smaller tugboats and cranes and all the other machines that were needed to keep a port running, but most importantly it had a large generator that kept the docks running in case of a power outage during the frequent storms that hit the Texas coast and it was huge it could probably keep a small town running for weeks just with its internal fuel capacity but add in the tens of thousands of gallons in the storage tanks and it would give them all the power they needed to live there for a while.

“What about food and water ?” asked Chavez “No problem, there is hundreds of shipping containers with food coming and going out of the docks everyday” “Water too, remember all that fancy imported water comes in thru the docks, anything you can think of will come in thru the docks, it will have everything we will need and then some.” After talking about it for a few more minutes everyone decided to vote on it and the vote was 33 to 7 for the plan to go to Steel city. “But we have to hurry, because we won’t be the only ones who think of this and we still need to get thru this city which won’t be easy with all the people we have in our group.”
