I'm not sure what day it is. It may be just after Thanksgiving. New York City is gone. I've holed up in a small cabin just above the tree line. It used to be a nice area. Pine trees all about. I found it by accident. It was clean and empty. I've camouflaged my vehicle and am going to stay here a while. There are a few small towns nearby. I passed on a road, a logging track really. It was chaos. Shooting, looting and those things... the undead, rambling about in small numbers. Before the news stopped - all that's airing now, and not in any regular pattern - are CONELRAD and the Emergency Broadcast System. Before the major networks went off line, NYC looked like Fajullah. Bodies everywhere, fires burning out of control. Most of the news came from helicopters. No one was mad enough to go in on the ground. The last reports were that the military was blowing all the bridges and tunnels, sealing the city off. Leaving it to it's fate. I felt a pang of sadness. I'd lived there my whole live and now to see it destroyed, not by a natural disaster, which I could have accepted (it was why Ted and I planned this out), but by walking corpses? Amazing. How did this happen? I'm betting it was some human fuck up. I decided to try one of the throw away phones. They're still getting bars, so the net is still up. I wish I'd thought of bringing a laptop, but that's an oversight I'll have to live with. Perhaps that wasn't Ted being shot, but doing the shooting...

No dice. No answer on either of my friends numbers. He had a cell and a satellite phone. No answer on either. I cracked the disposable phone and tossed it in a bucket I'm using for trash. So far the month hasn't been that cold, but I'm still going to have to gather more wood. I may do a run at one of the towns, but being alone, I'll have to be extra careful. I'm not going to stay here long - I'm still going to head for Camp Tryon. It's been abandoned for years, but the last time I'd been there, the bunkers were still serviceable and defendable. For now, I'm going to make sure this place is protected. I never expected to be alone, but I'll have to make due until I find other survivors I'd feel safe living among.
