I remember reading the paper November 1st, thinking to myself that I was right all along. Almost all my friends had made fun of me for believing that zombies were real. And now I felt vindicated, and a little scared. I called my friend Chris and told him to check it out. Looks like we were right. They had come. We immediately set into action, Our packs having been prepped since the superflu started. We spent the next week working our way through a slow and methodical check of everything we had stored. When the time finally came we ran for the hills. We had scouted the Appalachian mountains over the past year, looking for places we would be able to get to relatively easily. We had found four spots so far, Well enough removed from the small towns, hundreds of miles from big ones. We loaded up the back of the truck with gallons upon gallons of water, food, and enough camping supplies to last us at least a month. The last thing we grabbed was my laptop, with its five batteries, used sparingly it would keep us in contact for at least a little while. Then we could move over to the shortwave radios. As we got to our spot, we jumped out of the truck and started carrying as much of the food and water up to our cave as we could fit. This arduous process took us almost a full day, the truck being some two miles from the cave, and down the side of a mountain. By nightfall we were ready. Chris left with the truck to drop it off another few miles from us. I tried to talk him out of it. Tried to make him see the folly of doing anything at night, especially in a forested mountain. But he simply wouldnt hear of it. He said the sooner the better, and that he would be ok. Reluctantly I let him leave, his .44 Magnum on his hip as he started down the small dirt path. About ten minutes later I heard a gunshot. And then a scream. My blood ran cold as I realized who it was. The man who was supposed to be my partner, the one who would "be fine"... Quickly I loaded my Marlin 336XLR hunting rifle. My 9MM had been loaded since before we left the house. Knowing it was stupid, but having no choice I left the sanctity of our hole to see if I could find, or help, my friend...
