The Birds and New Years Eve

I came across this article today.  Somewhere in Arkansas over 5,000 birds were found dead all in the same area, apparently it happened before midnight on New Year's Eve.  Doctors and scientists don't know what to make about it, other than theories that it could have been from fireworks or electrical storms.  Yet, even with those things in mind, I have never read or heard of a story just as strange as this.  

It was also mentioned in another article that about 125 miles away from the bird incident, that they have found over 100,000 dead fish floating around in the waters, but without any proof or understanding about how this took place as well.  

Are these signs?
