"That's tom" Chris pointed out to Lucas, introducing him as if he was still alive. Lucas nodded out of habit at the same time completely okay with the fact there was a man lying there with a screw driver hanging out of his head. "You do that?" asked Lucas. When there was no response to the question Lucas looked to see Chris enthralled with the red door. Stepping beside him Lucas too stared at the door. "What are we staring at?" The question startled him but more or the inside then showed on the out. "Do you know what day it is?"asked Chris. Lucas made a look like he was asked to do calculus. "Honestly man, I've stopped counting." Chris put his hands on his sides and looked down. Doing so he felt the cell phone inside the waste band of his very lived in underwear. He kind of snickered at the remembrance of it and turned it to see the time and day. It was Thursday, October 30th, 2010. Time?, 3:53 The sight of this combination caused an uproar of emotion to rush through Chris, His eyes grew wide and his mind started to race backwards. Instantly reliving the time he was locked away behind that fucking door. Then in a matter of seconds the time changed, 3:54. Chris Laughed so hard but quietly. "Fucking door.....One month and one half......Fucking door". Looking at Chris not sure if saving him was the smartest idea right now he stepped to the side a moment "Dude, You good?!?". With a long winded sigh, the kind of weight lifting sigh. "yeah....yeah, I'm good man". Chris looked up and seen the door. "Dude?" Lucas asked "Why are we still staring at this door.".  "For one month and one half, I lived in this room. Trapped. Fucking Door."  "Why do you keep saying that?. I think that might be the 4th time?" Chris looked at him in a way that explained what one month and one half felt like trapped in a small room. Lucas shook his head in acknowledgment and agreed "Fucking door....".

Chris reached out and opened the door and the feted ammonia like smell of urine was over powering. Lucas wretched some how keeping his convulsion inside causing him to bow slightly. "Sorry, The maids been away.." Trying to lighten the mood Chris musses. Lucas just stared at the room, amazed at the almost perfect dichotomous scene. Irony defined. The room was completely filthy yet amazingly organized. A make shift bed was made out of industry sized toilet paper packs. The trash from all the candy was neatly flattened and set aside and the cans of soda flattened and set aside. They both just sat there and stared. "You really stayed in here that long?, why?''. Chris just sat there counting the heart beat that was coming from the room. "Not right now. Someday maybe, but not now" said Chris walking in and grabbing his pants. As soon as he put them on he went into a creature of habit patting his chest pockets and all the rest and  notices his back pocket is empty. He looks around and sees his wallet hanging out from under the shelving in the same spot. For about a month that wallet sat there and he never touched it. He just stared at it amazed that the whole time he was in there he never looked at the pictures of his family. He bent to pick up and by some fucked up twist of fate the family picture from the zoo fell out. He retrieved it and looked at it, almost through it. A single tear rolled down his cheek.

Back out into the brisk almost evening air. "Look I appreciate you helping me out over there and all but I have to get to my family and make sure they are alive" He said this casting a vague glance across the devastation. Inside he was fighting a crazy war. Is it worth the travel back home to find his family dead???. What if they are not dead, Will she let him in??. "So I think I'm going to take a rain check on that meal." Lucas just kind of looked at him. Then he kind of shook head snickering like, whatever. "I mean you understand right??" At that moment Chris seen the war waging inside of Lucas. The loss he must have encountered. The problems he most have went through are being illustrated on his face. Between the forced smile, stress lines and weathered skin Lucas was aging before his very eyes. A year a minute. In this awkward pregnant silence they sat they timid to say anything thing like a couple breaking up when they really don't want to. "Can I come with....." asked Lucas. " I can't ask you to do that." "You didn't ask, I did and that statement doesn't say no it just says your uncertain" Wow hes good Chris thought "Before this turns into a pussy fight love story like a bad teen romance story.  I'm coming I have nothing else to do and you are going to want some help things are different. Now that I'm thinking about it we have been spending a lot of time out in the open and I would like to get inside when the sun goes down. Besides after the events that have taken place with me today and the things that I have seen and been through I have some how bonded with you and I get this feeling that I should stay with you and I am not a superstitious nor religious person by any standards and with all do respect you have just spent the better part of two months another day will sucked but trust me man this one is shot we need to get somewhere quick and with all this ranting I just....." He finally has to stop and take a breath. After a good bit of silence "You got to tell me something, though" says Chris "if we are going to be spending a lot of time together, please tell me you don't banter like this often."  They both shared a laugh and shook hands and began to walk towards the restaurant. "Oh yeah, Wait" Chris stops fishing in his pockets pulls out his keys "I've got a ride..."  "Okay, well look the food is only around the corner lets just walk there and eat. If it doesn't take to long we shouldn't have to crash there for the night we will come back and take off."  Chris is becoming confused at this getting in before the night thing. "Why are so worried about the night we are dealing with zombies here not vampires....wait....right?" With the question dangling in the air there was a horrible barking howl. When they finally found where it was coming from the site was almost to much to handle. The roof tops of the surrounding buildings began to fill up with figures. Some fresh, some horribly decayed. Astonished at how they are organized let alone how they even got up there. After a few rotations looking at the unearthed ones the nervous feeling of being watched like a fish in a bowl and mix that with the nauseous feeling from spinning. It was obvious the shit didn't just hit the fan. The fan was made of shit and was flinging it ever where. "Move Slowly to the van over there. About 200 feet over there." Chris said physically guiding him. "Slowly?!?!, This isn't Jurassic park, we are dealing with T-rex's, They see us all ready. We need to get there now" All of a sudden there was a horrible crash and the convertible imploded under the weight of about 5 or 6 falling zombies. Like a bat out of hell the two of them took off for the van. Some of the zombies on top began making barking noises and other zombies began to walk off the roof cascading to the ground with the horrible orchestrated sounds of barks thuds, splashes, cracking of bones and spilling of organs and congealed blood. Most of the first to fall didn't move after plummeting to the ground. Some of the older more decayed just busted like water balloons. The younger fresh ones was able to get up and lumber towards them. Some of the younger ones were able to jump from the roof allowing them to some what aim. They reached the van dodging dead body debris, Keys still in hand Chris rounds to the driver side and unlocks the doors and jumps in. On the try the van turns on he looks to make Lucas was in and shut the door. Slammed into reverse and step onto the accelerator ripping out of the parking spot shredding up the car next to them. What felt like an elephant landed on the hood of the van instantly killing it a long with  they're chances of driving out of this.  They both had to push hard to get the doors open, when they did they both step out onto look at what happened a pile of flesh which could have easily been 6 or  bodies caved in the front of the van. Panic they looked around and then finally back to each other. "........run......" Chris said softly.
