the flu hit our town really hard. i wouldn't be afraid to say nearly 80% are infected. the schools are closed. all the stores are closed. people are afraid to leave their homes. our only two doctors have their hands full trying to deal with this epidemic. the hospital has been totally overrun and closed its doors. they have armed guards at the doors and will not let anyone in. yesterday they shot three people that tried to break in.

i'm trying to hold things together here but its getting really hard. my youngest cannot understand why she can't go outside and play with her friends.

has anyone noticed the eyes of the infected? they look odd. all red and totally bloodshot. not like a drunk's bloodshot eyes. much worse. its like a telltale sign of infection. or at least it is to me.

i haven't been able to get ahold of my oldest son in california. he's a marine and i can only hope they are safe. certainly the marine base is equipped to deal with this situation? they have guns and fences. they must be safe, right?

my other boy is in college in mississippi and last word i was able to get from him they holding their own. a group of uninfected students had barrakaded themselves in one of the high rise dorms. the entire first floor is sealed off. he said they are safe. he is better off than we are. at least there are 173 of them.
