You never really know what to say when you see someone naked for the first time, especially someone you think you never would have other wise.
“Home, Not far now, I just need to push on a little further.”
That’s all I’d been thinking for the last few hours when I saw the sign
“Aurora” it read “Population 0”
Someone had painted over the sign.
I got lost in the sea of abandoned vehicles some over turned some smoldering others still ablaze. Fire trucks and police vehicles left in the streets with lights flashing, ambulances on their sides, smeared and splattered with red, gray and brown. Screams, moans and howls fill the air.
A sudden and startling shriek came to my left. Like a machine I drew down at it’s source A woman, no more then 20 years old, her golden hair had been smudged black and brown. One shot, like clockwork was all I took this was the first time I’d killed a female Stag and she just flopped like a rag doll. The shot rang out into the darkness and then it started, the moans were louder and close, so f*cking close. Hundreds of stags started to pour out of every crack and came from around every corner.
“F*CK F*CK F*CK!”
I had no other options but to run, I didn’t have enough ammo loaded to take this many zeds down.
*BANG* *CRACKLE*
Bright blue and white lights in the sky, fireworks. At least a half dozen more lit up the darkness. The zeds stopped, staring up, without hesitation I took the opportunity and bolted through the group to my right firing between strides when a barrage of bullets snapped and whizzed by in every direction. Pops, splats, the sounds of ricochets and falling bodies behind me. Out of the corner of my eye I caught the muzzle flashes of 5-15 rifles and pistols. It was something out of the movies they advanced on me like a firing squad. My heart was racing, the adrenaline flowing through me, I drew down on them, I stood my ground, 7 men and women approached weapons train on my body.
“I guess I’ll be the bigger man here”
I raised my off hand open, palm facing them and holstered my pistol.
“What the f*ck do you think you’re doing out here son?”
An older gentleman in full riot gear stepped forward weapon still trained.
“Listen pops as much as I’d like to hang around with dicks swinging they’re a lot more on the way”
“Don’t you think I know that you smart assed, little, sh*t. Are you injured? Have you been bitten?”
“I’m fine, No I‘m not bitten by the way and who the f*uck are you guys?”
They lowered their arms and holstered their pistols.
“We don’t have time you can either move the f*ck on or come with us.”
“I’ll be fine on my own thanks.”
“Oh, shut the f*ck up kid, you look like hell’s been raping you in the @ss for a few days. We’ll get you a warm meal and a good night’s sleep”
“Listen I told you I’ll be going my own way, thanks anyways old man.”
As I turned to leave; I felt a swift, sharp sting on the side of my head.
When I came to my head was burning and my ears were ringing. I scanned the room it was underground, maybe a basement or a parking garage. There was a steady dripping noise near the bed, I was lying in a small cot. I sat up and groped for my pistol. It was gone I was naked. I tried to stand but fell out onto the floor, my leg cuffed to the cot… again the lights faded.
“Wake up. Rise and Shine!”
The voice repeated over and over in my mind until I felt a pinch on my ankle and my leg fell to the floor freed from the handcuffs. I looked up, the old man was standing over me with a coffee mug in his hand.
“I see you slept well.”
"Why did you cuff me to the bed? You get off on that kind of sh*t?”
“We couldn’t risk you being infected and terrorizing the rest of the camp.”
“I told you before I wasn’t, where am I?”
“We’re in the old Library on Church Street, we’ve turned into our primary base of operations.”
“We? Who the f*ck are you people? Why the fuck did you bring me here? How long was I out for?”
“Easy there boy. You’ve been down here about 16 hours. As for ‘who we are’; we’re just a group of survivors holding out until real help arrives. For the most part we’re mostly cops and stragglers from the evacuation. I decided to bring you here because we could use you, I saw how you handled yourself out there and you dropped 4 Zeds while running full tilt. What are you ex-military, A Cop?”
“Why thank you, I was a security guard, I just had a hell of a shooting coach. Now listen I’m looking for my family, my fiancé-”
He interrupted me swiftly.
“Listen son there ‘ave been dozens of people passing through here looking for loved ones and to be frank I doubt you’ll find them. It’s a mess out there, between the hundreds zed and the assholes like you, running around shooting the place up. You’d be lucky to find your way out of here without ending up food or a target.”
“The least you could do is point me in the right direction you abduct me and just expect me to fall in line for you? Well f*ck that I’ve got my own sh*t to worry about. I have people who’re depending on me.”
“You selfish PR*CK, we could really use a gun like you here, we’ve lost 6 men this week 2 of which when we went out to save your ass you owe us!”
“I never asked for your help, I could have handled it on my own.”The old man snarled at, turned and slammed the door as he left. I sat up onto the cot and held my face.
“Now how am I going to get out of this pickle?”
