We had all heard seen the movies and read the books and we accepted it as fiction, I myself did not believe that the dead were rising until that day. God it feels like it was just yesterday.
It was the seventh of November and I was in my apartment trying to put the final touches on my new book "When the Dead Walk, How and Why they Can't", yeah I know. Well I had heard on the news that the infection had hit Las Vegas almost a week ago, but like most people I didn't believe it and just kept trudging along with my daily life. Well a knock came on my door first it was calm three taps, then it became frantic like someone was beating on it. I got up and ran to the door as fast I could and threw it open. On the other side was a person is one of those hazard suits on, they ran into my apartment as fast as they could. I saw what they were so anxious to get away from, a woman about mid twenties stepped into my doorway which is fine except this woman was missing her bottom jaw.
"Oh my god, what is that?" I asked dumbfounded by what I was looking at. I soon found myself snap back to reality quit fast as the woman started to stagger towards me, I feel back and began to panic looking for anything to use as a weapon but it was to late it was on me and I was using all my strength to hold it back. Well just when I was about to give up hope and give in, the person in the hazard suit ran up with a curtain rod and shoved it through the things head.
I sat there staring in awe at the creature that lay atop me, of what used to be a young woman. " Hey we need to go" the person in the hazard suit said and for the first time in a while I followed someone else but myself. Before I left I grabbed a few notebooks so I could write down what was happening. We ran as fast as we could down the thirteen floors to the lobby, where there was another person in a hazard suit but they had a gun. Well we went outside and got into one of those what you call its, its like a house but you drive it. Well whatever, we got into it and the perosn with the gun started it up and began to drive.
I think it was about ten minutes before anyone spoke or for that matter did anything at all. Finally I asked you they were and the hazard suit person from the apartment took off his suit and reveled a boy about eighteen years old, he had brownish reddish hair and hazel eyes. He said his name was Alex, but didn't talk much after that. It was probably another hour before anyone else spoke, not until we had made it out of the city.
