My name is Blake Howell, before the outbreak I was a fairly normal college student, I was gonna be a game designer, then THIS happened, now every day is a brutal fight for survival against those things. I have decided to document this daily fight for survival. In this journal I will record my daily activities, along with any other important information I may learn. If something happens to me, I only hope the information recorded in this journal is useful to whomever may find it.

I always joked with friends about how we would be so prepared for the zombie outbreak, I had seen every zombie movie, played every zombie video game, heck I even read the "Zombie Survival Guide" and "World War Z" on a regular basis. Truth is, I couldn't have been more unprepared, nothing can prepare someone for an even that will generally cause the extinction of the human race. Sure I knew all about zombie survival techniques, I knew how to shoot a gun, I had taken martial arts classes for many years, heck I was a boy scout in grade school but none of that was enough to prepare me for what would happen.

I remember the day I first made contact with an infected individual, It was a police officer, he had been bitten but hadn't turned, this was back when everyone thought it was riots. He ran into a parked car on my street, he had been disoriented from the bite. I was the only one there to help him out of his vehicle and onto the sidewalk. He was breathing very fast and shaking, whether it was from panick or the bite I am unsure. He told me that his squad was ordered to open fire on the rioters, he couldn't do it. "I just ran, I couldn't think. I managed to make it back to my cruizer but one of the rioters BIT me!" He yelled, stopping between sentences to cough up blood. "It was just madness and chaos, it didn't make any sense!" He stopped and stared directly in my eyes, "There's something else...the rioters getting shot weren't going down! I saw this guy rush an officer, got shot at least five times and kept coming at him like it was nothing!" He grabbed my arm to lean closer, I noticed for the first time how pale his skin was. "Look kid I don't know whats going on here but take my advice, get out of the City! At this point he started coughing heavily and convulsing uncontrollably before falling to the ground, I remember checking his pulse...he was dead. A wave of Nausia swept over me and I had to fight off puking. I fell into a deep panick and dialed 911 to report what had just happened. Instead of an operator I was shocked to hear only the dull beeping of a busy signal. What the hell was going on here...Thats when the unthinkable happened, the police officer I had watched die just minutes ago started to get back up. I heard someone yelling at me to run, I was confused at first, until the cop turned to face me and I saw his eyes. I remember staring into them, they were blank, black as the night sky, and above all else empty, void of any human emotion. It was this point that I knew something was very wrong. Before I could react, he rushed me. I don't exactly know what happened but I remember hitting the ground and him being on top of me, trying to bite and claw and tear at me any way he could. I had a pocket knife but was unable to reach it because I was using my arms to hold him off and keep him from tearing me apart. I somehow managed to get my feet up and kick him off, he stumbled back and hit the ground. This gave me just enough time to reach for my knife and flip it open. He rushed me again and I knew there was no other choice. I swung the knife forward, right into his throat. He hit the ground but...I had to make sure, I grabbed the gun in his holster and put a bullet between his eyes. I couldn't believe what just happened. I had killed a cop but...that thing wasn't a cop it was a monster, a dangerously savage monster. After positioning the pistol to be secured under my belt I decided it was time to get my friends and get the hell outta dodge.
