Training

Day and night, the training never seemed to stop. We had evacuation drills, search and rescue drills, containment drills. We had target practice, hand to hand combat drills, so many drills it made your head spin. Looking back, I guess the one thing we didn't drill was the ability to take out the people you cared for if they became the "infected". Thats not to say that we didn't have numerous training classes with the bottom line being: "Once they are infected they are no longer them", but thats easy to say, the truth is when you have your wife, son or whoever in your sites, squeezing the trigger is a whole different ballgame! Sure I know, everyone says they could do it or they would have no problem with that, sure sure its easy but damn it if I didn't watch eight of the best trained soldiers bicker and argue and eventually become infected because it wasn't so damn easy! You see in this game it only takes one little mistake or one tiny nano-second when you are caught off-guard and you get bitten. All the macho "I'll shoot whoever" shit in the world don't matter once you get that gift!!
