Words To Know:

UC (Undead Combatant)- Basic undead.

“You alright, Breakaway?” I ask. “You just took a nasty spill.”

“I’m cool, man. Just give me a sec.” He responds, wheezing and coughing.

“Dude, you fell, like, two stories, and landed on a fucking car. Are you sure?” Havoc asks, near laughing.

   “I’m okay! God, stop asking.”

“Okay, tough guy. So, Simple, what next?” Havoc asks me.

“We gotta start moving. All that noise has probably got us some attention.”

“Yessir.” Havoc grabs his MP5k-SD from the hood of the damaged car, and checks the clip.

“Need some help up, Breakaway?” I ask.

“Sure.” I grab his hand, and pull him to his feet. “Thanks, man.”

“No prob.” My radio spurts out static, then a voice comes out.

“Unit 4, Station 2 calling “Runnerz” Squad. Do you copy?”

“Yes sir. Simple here. Any news?”

“Yes, Commander. We are seeing multiple UC’s headed for your position. I advise you start moving to your objective.”

“Sorry, sir. Breakaway is slightly wounded. Kinda slowing us down, you know?”

“Fuck you!” Breakaway screams at me. We start laughing.

“Yeah, well get off your asses and start moving. We need that base clear ASAP.”

“Got it. See you later, Jeff.”

“Good luck, Simple.” Static. “Let’s get moving.”

“Rock and roll.” Havoc loads a round into his SMG.

“Yes sir.” Breakaway takes a breath, cracks his neck, and grabs his M4-SD. He holsters it onto the weapon mount on his back. I check my Silenced Kalibars (possibly the coolest auto handguns ever!), and holster them into the special made holsters on my chest. All I have to do is hit a button and pull them off, making quick kills a lot easier.

We step out of the alley, into the open emptiness of the street. I spot three UC’s to our right, and four to our left.

“Can we take em’ out?” Havoc asks me.

“Nah. Save you ammo.” I spot an apartment building, and look up. The roof leads to a set of other ones, resembling a staircase. “Follow me.”

I begin at a walk, then a jog, then a sprint, and finally I’m running at full speed down the street toward the apartment. Havoc and Breakaway are close behind. Closing in on one of the four UC’s to our left, I unsheathe my trench knife, and send the brass-knuckle handle into its forehead. I feel the skull give way, and I send it to the pavement, dead. It gives us a clear path to the front doors of the apartment.

“Breakaway, you want to give us the honors?”

“IF you aren’t still hurting.” Havoc teases.

“My pleasure.” He steps to the doors, and his boot connects with them, sending them flying open. Right as his foot touches the ground, a UC emerges from the darkness. His weapon goes off almost immediately, sounding the familiar “tap” from the silencer, and pierces its head. It falls, dead like they are meant to be.

We move inside, and begin to scale the staircase. We move fluidly, quickly, quietly. Second floor. Step by step, we move faster. Third floor. The steps are going by so fast, we are moving even faster. The roof…..

Adrenaline pushes us out of the door, almost as if your bodies our moving on their own. We take a step, and jump to the next roof. I feel weightless as I fly over the gap in between the two buildings, and land beautifully onto the other building. I feel like I’m running faster than the speed of light, everything is just flying by. I take a step, and this one step slingshots me onto the next building. The adrenaline is flowing through my veins, and I feel every heartbeat. I feel indestructible as I fly over the next gap, and onto the final building on the street. As I land, almost as if I’m slamming on the breaks in a car, I stop and stare at the overrun Unit 4 base. The other two are at my side, watching with me.

“You guys ready?” I ask them.

“Oh, I’ve been ready.” Havoc says. Breakaway nods.

“Let’s go.” I tell them. We drop our hooks, secure them to the edge of the building, and desend.

   God, I love my job.
