We’re sure you’ve probably heard about the zombies in Haiti, people who have been induced into a state of lifelessness, where they are only capable of taking orders. But do you know the science behind it? It turns out that neurotoxins are to blame.

Neurotoxins are basically a fungi that slows bodily functions to the point that you’re basically considered dead. You lose the ability to use 99% of your brain; therefore, you can to be commanded to do stuff. In Haiti, this is one of the most severe punishments someone can receive.

Let’s say there’s a little trouble maker in the village who’s always getting into trouble. One day the straw broke the camel’s back, and everyone decides to induce him into this state. They fix an ancient, secret remedy and administer it. At that point, the kid turns into a zombie, and he is commanded to work out in the fields for the rest of his life. If you go to Haiti, there are dozens of zombies like this working the fields. It’s actually commonplace!

Of course, that’s not the only instance. There is also a poison from a Japanese blowfish that can do the same; however, the chances of surviving such an attack are so small it’s an occurrence. And the people that do usually can’t take care of themselves enough, resulting in starvation.

If there was truly a zombie threat present, this would be one of the more worrisome ones, as actual human beings are in states of what is essentially being a zombie; though, they don’t spread the virus like usual.
