We walk back inside as the padre and I stopped, facing eachother exchanging our last words, and shaking eachothers hand. I part my way back to the benches, sitting down, and placing my head between my knees holding in the painful memories erase from my mind. Liz walks over to me, sitting next to me. "hey...are you alright?" asking in a soft tone that putting my mind at ease. I wipe my face, seeing she got the picture.. "I'm sorry.." she says, rubbing my back. "That cop that we saved.. she's awake now.. We filled her in on what happend..and she says thank you." she reaches down tieng her laces.
"So...do we have a plan?" she asks. "yes.. we should rest up at my place. Theres water and electricity, seeing it still running through with the church.. we'll leave soon.. Just double check on the gear..." She looks at me. "Alright...a shower sounds nice right about now. But, I'll let the rest know, afterwards what are we going to do?" asking again. "Don't worry about that.. I got a plan.." She gives me a confused look, turning around, and walking back to the group.
I sit up, watching people doing what they can to survive. "Why did this happen, just keep moving, Where are you?"
Feeling there same thoughts that's running through there minds. -sighs- "fucking christ old man... why couldn't you have woken me up to go with you where you needed to be..." I lightly slam my fist on the bench. I stand up, taking off my cap, running my fingers through my hair, and putting it back on, heading back towards the group. "hey guys... how's every doing?" "Were good, how about you?" James asks. I give him a thumbs up, taking a quick glance at the cop. "How about you ma'm?" "Thank you, for saving me back there." holding out her hand, as I shake hers. "Anytime...?" she laughs. "Wendy, no officer, ma'm just Wendy." she says. Nodding. "I like that, hahaha." We talk over the plan, agreeing on the safe house for the moment.
We start heading towards the entrance, the padre stops us for a moment. "Where are you going child?" he asks. "I'm going home..." He nods his head, not saying a word after mine. "Let god be with you." telling us one by one as we leave the church. "God...if there was a god...he still be here.." I spit on the ground, walking towards my dads truck, and pulling on the back door handle seeing it was left unlocked, lifting the back seat up, and grabbing only a converter.
"What are you going to do with that?" Wendy asks. I keep silence, continuing to walk along the courtyard, and climbing over the trucks and getting in our vehicle. I start up the engine, peeling out into the street, making it only a three minute trip, turning into my nieghborhood, and seeing my house already in view. "Home sweet home.." pulling into the drive way, looking at it once more, killing the engine. "Let's go everybody.."
