I've caught the cold and the flu every year since as far back as I can remember. My family has always told me its because I never dress for the weather, I don't wash my hands often enough, I sleep with too many hookers... ok the last part isn't true, but humor is all I have left now.. When word was out on the news about the so called "super flu", I knew I would catch it, I always catch whatever d*mn sickness the media is raving about everyone preparing for, I assume its fate. What I didn't assume was that I would be the last to catch it..
My immune system may be s**tty enough that I catch every cold and flu thats out there, but it's a fighter. My symptoms are usually mild but persist for up to a month or two; its a fighter but it sure takes it's time. That's enough about my body, i'll jump back to the beginning of all this mess..
August 17th 2007:
My step father came home today complaining of a head-ache and upset stomach. I had been watching a news report on the living conditions in the Quarantine camp in Saint Teresa. After hearing my step father's complains, I made sure to stay away from him to avoid catching whatever he had. I locked myself in my room and left the rest of my family to look after him. Several hours later my mother knocked on my door and told me that she was taking my step father to the hospital because she was worried about his high fever. I was sorry that he was doing so terribly but I was also thankful I made the decision to stay away from him. I wished them the best and reminded my mother of all the advice she had given me about avoiding getting sick.
August 19th 2007:
My mother just called me.. and sobingly she told me my step father passed away in the night. I was never exactly close with the man, but I never wished for such a thing to happen to him, and I mourn the loss for my mother and his son, but I'm also worried about my mother now.. She was coughing.. I decided to drive up to the hospital they were staying at. I took my step brother with me of course, he needed to say goodbye to his father.. the poor kid is devastated..
There are so many people at this hospital, and most of them are sick with what seems like what my step dad was suffering from.. My step brother has been crying alot but he doesn't look too good even considering that.. It's a miracle I'm not sick yet.. The doctor that was watching over my step father has informed us that he had been infected with the H1N1 Flu virus, which the media has been calling the "super flu".. One out of every ten people infected inevitably die after being infected by the "super flu", and 50% of those that survive end up dieing of another common sickness after their immune system has been ravaged by the previous illness..
August 20th 2007:
My mother and step brother have both been admitted to the hospital after the staff noticed many of the syptoms associated with the "super flu", and I've been forced out of the hospital. Apparently this illness is so contagious their trying to keep everyone that isn't infected yet away from those that already are.. The hospital staff is being quarantined as well and being replaced with men in what looks like biosuits.. It seems like god is watching over my today; as far as I know, i'm still not sick.. I hope he watches over my mother and step brother..
August 23rd 2007:
I still haven't heard anything about my mother or step brother, I don't know whether that's a good thing or a bad thing.. With Marshal Law having been declared a month back, they don't tell the public anything anymore. Their still not letting anyone in (unless their sick) or out.. I've spoken with some other worried families, and there is much hostility felt towards the agency in charge of the quarantine of the hospital, I think some people may start rioting if nobody gets any answers soon..
August 24th 2007:
A man got into a fight with the guards at the hospital and broke through their line to get inside.. they shot him before he reached the door.. This caused many of the people protesting outside the hospital to start hurling rocks at the guards and other officials in charge, several more people were shot, including a man standing right next to me.. This was too much for me so I left but when I got home I saw on the news that the disturbance at the hospital had escalated into a full blown riot.. most of the guards and officials have been killed..
August 26th 2007:
With the guards gone, I had no problem getting into the hospital.. Most of the original staff is still here, but more than half of them are sick like the patients. After some help from some of the staff that were still uninfected, I quickly located my mother and step brother.. their both in really bad shape, but my step brother is doing the worst; he has been coughing up blood and losing conciousness.
I wasn't a very religious man in the beginning, but I've been praying to god alot recently.. Why is it that i'm always the one who gets sick, but now i'm one of the few who is still healthy?
August 27th 2007:
I woke up feeling a little sore from the stiff recliner in my familie's room, but otherwise i'm still healthy.. I wish I could say the same for my mother and step brother.. My mother is really going down hill, and my step brother wont even respond or wake up anymore.. To take my mind off of the horrible situation around me, I turned on the news in their room. There are alot of commercials about micacle vaccines for the "super flu" or officially named Campion Virus, but the hospital staff isn't administering anything like them to the patients or anyone else. I even overheard a doctor beratting a nurse for suggesting the use of one of the vaccines.
August 29th 2007:
My step brother has been reunited with his father... he passed away this morning.. I'm afraid my mother isn't far behind.. She has been getting very dilusional, she didn't even notice that my step brother died, and she keeps talking about a birthday I had several years ago..
I havent seen a nurse or doctor on this floor since they wheeled my step brother away this morning..
September 1st 2007:
My mother passed away today.. She actually seemed like maybe she was getting better.. She stopped talking about my past birthday and was talking to me about what she wanted to do once she got out of this place.. She had said her first plan was to take a long hot shower because she said she was starting to smell nearly as bad as the attending nurse.. I could help but laugh.. When I stopped, she was just smiling at me.. but her eyes were dull and vacant.. I closed her eyes, kissed her on the forehead, and said goodbye before I started crying.. After that, I couldn't stop coughing..
Present day/ September 7th 2007:
There's no doubt now.. I'm infected with the Campion Virus, but I don't care.. It may not have seemed like it but I loved my family.. now that their gone, I feel numb on the inside.. A local pharmaceuitcal company called me and asked if I was infected or knew of anbody infected with the Campion Virus who would like to participate in some voluntary testing for treatments. They told me their facility is located in Trinity in Northern California.. I've agreed to go to the testing, I don't have anything left to loose, I might as well try to help them find a cure..
