Maybe, just maybe, like Venom in the original Spidey comics, a zed virus clung to the side of the rocket ship and ended up here. Since Earth wasn't its natural habitat it died off quickly...or at least most of it did which would explain the occasional outbreak in far off corners that are quickly covered up by the press (as well as WHY it's covered up: proof of z-virus would equal proof of aliens-- can't have that, now can we?) Thing is, it's had a long time to evolve, eventually, maybe sooner, maybe later it'll get strong enough, perhaps too strong and the press/govt. will no longer be able to deny/cover up the truth as folks die off for this most deadly of secrets.
